I was born and raised in Madison, Wis., as the third of four kids. Ultimate became the family sport after my older siblings discovered it in high school. I started playing in about eighth grade. I attended Wheaton College in Illinois for one year, then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison my sophomore year.
After starting college as an art major, I ended up graduating with a B.S. in Zoology and headed to California for a year. There, I worked at the Monterey Bay Aquarium with the exhibit sea otters while playing ultimate with San Francisco Fury. I then returned to Madison for veterinary school, during which time I helped start the Wisconsin club women’s team, Heist.
In 2015, after graduating from vet school, I went to North Carolina State University in Raleigh for a year-long small animal internship as preparation for residency. I am now back at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for my small animal (dog and cat) surgical residency.
In October 2016, I married Patrick Shriwise, who is also an ultimate player (and captain of men’s club team Madison Club) and is a PhD student in nuclear engineering. We’ll be in Madison for the next two years, and after that, who knows?
Fun Facts about Georgia:
- Pat and I have a very unathletic dog named Monk who is terrible at catching Frisbees.
- Sandy Jorgensen and I were in each others weddings.
- Sea otters have been my favorite animal since I was four years old.
