Long before my coaching career began, I started playing ultimate in high school in 1993 because it looked like much more fun than any of the other sports people played during recess.
Outside of ultimate, I am a biomedical engineer. I have worked on glucose measuring devices for patients with diabetes for 16 years. I currently work at Senseonics in Germantown, Md., as a systems engineering manager. We make an implantable, continuously monitoring glucose sensor. I have a two-year old son named Xavier who is the best child ever.
Contrary to my nickname, my family is from Belgium (not the Netherlands), and I speak Flemish (not Dutch).
Fun Facts about Alex:
- I’m often better known as Dutchy.
- My family is Belgian, not Dutch.
- My original coaching inspiration was Billy Rodriguez.
- If I could afford being a science and math teacher, that is what I would most like to be.
