USA Ultimate Announces 2020 World Junior Ultimate Championships National Team

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Jan. 7, 2020) – USA Ultimate, the national governing body for the sport of ultimate in the United States and member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, is excited to announce the athletes who will represent the U.S. this summer on the Under 20 National Team at the World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).

The 48 athletes named to the two 2020 Under-20 U.S. National Team rosters – men’s and women’s – are some of the world’s best youth ultimate players. The final rosters were selected after two weekends of tryouts that included 200 athletes, who were selected from a pool of more than 400 initial applicants. The rosters include eight returners from the 2018 squads: three on the men’s team and five on the women’s team.

WJUC 2020 is the 19th edition of the tournament and is expected to host 54 teams from 30 countries. WJUC was first held as a division of the World Ultimate and Guts Championship, beginning with the inaugural event in 1983. WJUC has since become its own event and takes place every two years.

The United States first competed at the World Junior Ultimate Championships in 1988. Since that time, U.S. teams have earned 23 WJUC medals: 12 gold, five silver and six bronze. The U.S. teams swept gold at the 2018 World Junior Ultimate Championships in Canada – the first sweep for the U.S. at the event in 12 years.

WJUC 2020 is set to be held July 18-25 in Malmö, Sweden, and will be hosted by the World Flying Disc Federation and a tournament organizing committee led by Kockums Ultimate with support from the Swedish Ultimate Foundation and the City of Malmö.
